Former New York Congressman Anthony Weiner has officially joined the race for New York Mayor. Weiner resigned his House seat two years ago amidst a sex scandal but says in an announcement video that he has what it takes to run the Big Apple.
He made the official announcement in a video on YouTube saying:
"I made some big mistakes and I know I let a lot of people down, but I have also learned some tough lessons. I am running for mayor because I have been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it my entire life, and I hope I get a second chance to work for you."
Weiner's wife, long-time Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, also speaks in the video saying: "We love this city and no one will work harder to make it better than Anthony."
The news comes just weeks after a New York Times interview in which Weiner revealed that he was considering a mayoral run. He has currently raised over $4 million in campaign funds, the Daily News reports.
