Massachusetts Lt. Governor Submits Resignation

Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray announced his resignation on Wednesday - so that he can now accept the position of president and CEO of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.

"It has been an honor to serve as the lieutenant governor, but at the same time, I know change is the nature of life," Murray told reporters. "This is completely about my family and a job that provides a unique and special opportunity."

Murray, 44, and Governor Deval Patrick have been in office together since winning election in 2006. Patrick will not seek re-election in 2014, and Murray was already on record as saying that he would also not run for governor.

There will be no replacement until Patrick's successor takes office in 2015.

The former Mayor of Worcester, Murray has a wife and two daughters.
