Authorities in Connecticut have arrested a woman after finding cocaine in the system of her 17-month-old baby.
The Register-Citizen reports that Jamie Bennett, 31, of Thomaston, Connecticut was arrested and charged on Tuesday with risk of injury to a minor and second-degree reckless endangerment after the drug was found in the baby's system during a hospital evaluation back in March.
Authorities are saying that they received a complaint from the state Department of Children and Families after Bennett brought the child into St. Mary's hospital and said that the child was lethargic and had not eaten anything after falling down a small flight of stairs the previous day.
When the child was tested for various issues by doctors, they found that it was dehydrated and that it had cocaine in their system. Custody of the child was given to another family member once its condition improved and Bennet later turned herself into police.
