Turkey April Tourist Arrivals Rise At Slower Rate

Foreign tourist arrivals in Turkey increased at a notably slower pace in April, preliminary data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism showed Friday.

The number of foreign tourists visiting the country increased 13.02 percent from last year to around 2.45 million in April, which was markedly slower than the 26.06 percent growth recorded in March and February's 27.15 percent.

Visitor arrivals increased for the ninth successive month. As much as 5.6 percent of the total visitors was excursionist during the month.

The number of visitors from the Americas climbed 35.25 percent annually, and arrivals from Asian countries advanced 53.72 percent. There was a 20.27 percent growth in visits from Africa, and a 2.62 percent gain in arrivals from Europe.

In the January-April period, arrival of foreign tourists climbed 18.85 percent to 6.67 million from the corresponding period a year earlier. Excursionists accounted for 3.23 percent of the total visitors.
