Brazil's Consumer Sentiment Weakens Modestly In May

Brazil's consumer confidence weakened slightly in May after staying unchanged in the previous month, data released by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) showed Friday.

The headline consumer confidence index dropped to 113.4 points in May from 113.9 points in April, which was unchanged from the preceding month.

Consumers were slightly less optimistic in May about prospects for the general economy in the coming months, with the relevant indicator falling to 108.3 points from 109.6 points in April.

Meanwhile, the sub-index that measures households' views of the current economic situation increased to 122.7 in May from 121.6 in the previous month, data showed.
