The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) captured a 620-pound bear in Lake County earlier this week. The black bear, the second largest ever recorded in the state, was sedated, given a medical exam and relocated, reports the Sun Times.
Residents of the rural area had been lodging complaints of damaged property and upset trash bins for some time, and it now appears that the big bear was the culprit. According to the Orlando Sentinel, one resident began putting his trash in a shed, which was subsequently dismantled by the beast.
According to local news source ABC 7, FWC trapper Mike Connolly set up a large metal cage with a snack inside which drew in the bruin. He then sedated him, took some hair samples and gave him an id tattoo and ear tag.
"He was a nice bear and hopefully he'll stay out of trouble," a rep for the FWC told the Sentinel. "If we see him again, we'll know who we are dealing with."
