Swiss Watch Exports Increase 5.7% In April

Switzerland's watch exports recorded strong annual growth in April, data released by the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry showed Tuesday.

The total value of watch exports advanced 5.7 percent from a year earlier to CHF 1.8 billion in April. Shipments of wrist watches climbed 5.9 percent annually to CHF 1.7 billion. At the same time, exports of other products rose by 2.1 percent.

Dispatches to Germany jumped 19.8 percent year-on-year, and shipments to Italy climbed 16.2 percent. Meanwhile, exports to China and France decreased 22 percent and 15.2 percent respectively from April 2012.

In the four months ended April, the value of watches exported from Switzerland was higher by 3.3 percent than in the same month a year earlier, data showed.
