Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ) reported a first-quarter net loss attributable to company of $4.4 million or $0.10 per share, compared to a net loss of $21.3 million or $0.49 per share, in the first quarter of 2012.
Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report a loss per share of $0.78 for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net revenue was $263.6 million, down 19.1% from $325.8 million in the first quarter of 2012. Total solar module shipments in the first quarter of 2013 were 340 MW, compared to 343 MW in the first quarter of 2012.
For the second quarter of 2013, the company expects module shipments to be in the range of approximately 380 MW to 420 MW. Gross margin for the quarter is expected to be between 9% and 11%.
For the full year 2013, the company expects module shipments to be in the range of approximately 1.6 GW to 1.8 GW.
