Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS, BNS.TO) or Scotiabank reported second quarter net income attributable to common shareholders of C$1.479 billion up from C$1.336 billion in the same period last year. Earnings per share were C$1.23, compared to C$1.15 in the same period a year ago.
Adjusted earnings per share rose to C$1.24 from last year's C$1.16. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of C$1.26 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total revenue on a taxable equivalent basis for the quarter grew to C$5.304 billion from the prior year's C$4.773 billion. Nine analysts had consensus revenue estimate of C$5.18 billion for the quarter.
