European Economics Preview: German Unemployment Data Due

Unemployment and inflation figures from Germany are due on Wednesday, headlining a busy day for the European economic news.

At 2.00 am ET, Destatis is scheduled to release Germany's unemployment figures. Switzerland's consumption indicator is also due.

At 3.00 am ET, Spain's statistical office INE is set to release retail sales figures for April. Sales were down 10.9 percent year-on-year in March. Hungary's unemployment figures are due.

Statistics Sweden is scheduled to issue GDP figures at 3.30 am ET. The economy is expected to grow 0.3 percent sequentially in the first quarter after staying flat in the fourth quarter.

At 3.55 am ET, the Federal Labor Agency is set to issue German unemployment figures. The number of unemployed is forecast to rise by 5,000 in May after rising 4,000 in April.

At 4.00 am ET, the European Central Bank is set to release euro area money supply data. Economists forecast money supply to grow 2.9 percent year-on-year, faster than the 2.6 percent rise in March.

In the meantime, Italy's business confidence and Poland's GDP figures are due. Economists forecast Poland to grow 0.5 percent annually in the first quarter.

At 5.00 am ET, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is scheduled to issue economic outlook for euro area.

At 6.00 am ET, the Confederation of British Industry is set to release Distributive Trades survey results. The U.K. retail sales balance is seen at 3 in May, compared to -1 in April.

Preliminary estimate for German consumer prices are due at 8.00 am ET. EU harmonized inflation is seen rising to 1.4 percent in May from 1.1 percent in April.
