Express Inc. (EXPR) reported first quarter net income of $0.38 per share Thursday morning, down from $0.47 per share last year. The consensus estimate was for EPS of $0.36. The company expects to report second quarter EPS of $0.17 to $0.21 and between $1.48 and $1.58 for the full year 2013. The consensus estimates are for EPS of $0.14 and $1.52.
Express gapped open sharply higher Thursday and took out the session highs around midday. The stock finished with a gain of 2.41 at $21.20 on above average volume. Express broke out past resistance and set a new high for the year.
