Delta Air Lines May Traffic Up 1.4%, Capacity Rises 0.7%

Delta Air Lines (DAL) reported that its traffic in May 2013 increased 1.4% from May 2012, on a capacity increase of 0.7%.

The airline said its May 2013 total traffic rose 1.4% to 16.77 billion revenue passenger miles or RPMs from 16.53 billion RPMs in the same period last year.

The airline's May 2013 total capacity was 19.78 billion available seat miles or ASMs, up 0.7% from 19.65 billion ASMs in the prior year period.

Total Load factor for the month was 84.8%, up 0.7 points from 84.1% reported in the same month last year.

Passenger boardings for May 2013 edged up 0.6 percent to 14.26 million from 14.18 million in the same period last year.

Consolidated passenger unit revenue or PRASM for the month of May increased 0.5% year over year driven by unit revenue gains in Delta's New York hubs and the international entities, which offset 1 point of negative impact to system PRASM from the yen devaluation.
