Australia's merchandise trade surplus came in at a seasonally adjusted A$28 million in April, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday.
That was well shy of forecasts for a surplus of A$180 million following the upwardly revised A$555 million surplus in March (originally A$307 million).
Exports were down 1 percent on month to A$25.419 billion, while imports were up 1 percent to A$25.391 billion.
