The number of persons singing-up for job-seekers' allowance in Ireland increased in May after falling for three months in a row, data released by the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday.
The number of persons on the live register, on an unadjusted basis, increased to 421,737 in May from 417,593 April, following three consecutive monthly declines. Compared to May 2012, the live register total decreased by 2.6 percent.
The number of long-term claimants on the register advanced 1.7% percent year-on-year to 191,997 during the month, while the number of short-term claimants decreased by 5.9 percent. The number of casual and part-time workers on the register was lower by 0.1 percent compared to a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the standardized unemployment rate in Irish labor market remained unchanged month-on-month at 13.7 percent in May. The latest figure was, however, lower than 14.9 percent recorded a year earlier, data showed.
