Retail drugstore chain operator Rite Aid Corp.'s (RAD) same-store sales in May 2013 slid 1.5 percent yer-over-year, while front-end same-store sales rose 0.8 percent. Pharmacy same store sales, including nearly 373 basis points negative impact from new generic introductions, decreased 2.7 percent; and prescription count at comparable stores dropped 0.3 percent over the prior-year period.
For the five weeks ended June 1, 2013, total drugstore sales went down 1.5 percent to $2.42 billion, from $2.46 billion last year. Prescription sales accounted for 67.0 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription sales represented 97.0 percent of pharmacy sales.
