Apple announced the latest version of its operating system, called Mac OS X Mavericks, turning around from its usual way of naming computer operating system after big wildcats.
Mavericks, which will be available this fall, boasts of many new features including the addition of Maps and iBooks to the Mac and support for multi-display. Apple said it named the latest version Mavericks as homage to its home state of California, where Mavericks is a popular surfing location.
"The Mac has consistently outpaced the PC industry and OS X continues to be the most innovative and easy to use operating system in the world," said Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of Software Engineering.
Apple has introduced Finder Tags and Tabs for a better way to organize and find files from the computer. Mavericks can also use a HDTV as a second display using Apple TV and AirPlay.
A new feature called Timer Coalescing groups together low-level operations so that the CPU can spend more time in a low-power state, saving energy without affecting performance or responsiveness. Another feature App Nap reduces power consumed by apps that users are not using.
Apple also brought its map application and iBooks application from iOS to Mac. Another feature iCloud Keychain offers to safely store website login information, credit card numbers and Wi-Fi passwords, and push them to users devices.
