One-third Of Americans Own A Tablet

Gadgets are defining people's lives everyday, in almost every sphere of activity. In a world ruled by the abundantly growing technology, a recent research report from Pew Research Center reaffirms this. The research shows that 34 percent of US adults own a tablet- iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Google Nexus, Kindle Fire or the like, compared to 18 percent last year. Way back in 2010, only 3 percent among adults had owned a tablet.

Majority of the tablet owners, or 56 percent of the respondents are people who earn at least $75,000 a year. Adults aged 65 and more are less likely to buy a tablet than the younger group, the report showed. The survey also said 49 percent of the owners is in the age group of 35 to 44.

Fifty percent of the parents today seem to be utilizing tablets as an alternative to babysitters, compared to 26 percent last year, resulting in a jump in the sales of the device.

Youngsters in the age group of 18-34 prefer smartphones, another survey conducted by Pew found. The survey also showed that 49 percent of the college graduates opt for tablets compared to 28 percent last year.

The findings by Pew were based on telephonic interviews conducted from April 17 to May 19 this year, among 2,252 adults aged 18 and older, with a sampling error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.
