Ireland Inflation Stays At 0.5%

Ireland's EU harmonized inflation came in at 0.5 percent in May, the same rate as seen in April, the Central Statistics Office said Thursday.

Month-on-month, the harmonized index of consumer prices remained flat after easing 0.1 percent in April.

Consumer price inflation eased marginally to 0.4 percent in May from 0.5 percent in April, it said. Compared to April, prices edged down 0.1 percent.

The cost of education surged 4.8 percent annually, and that of alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose 4.3 percent.

Meanwhile, there were decreases in furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 3.3 percent and clothing and footwear cost by 2.7 percent.
