Yahoo! To Wipe Out Inactive Accounts

Internet giant Yahoo! is revamping itself in every possible way, with a slew of updates and changes to make itself better for the user. Following the shutdown of its classic version of mail recently, the company is taking the next step. Yahoo! loyalists and the new users who wish to sign up a new account have something to rejoice about this news, as they get an opportunity to grab the Yahoo ID they have always wanted.

Yahoo! said that users could send a request for a user name of their choice; eg: albert@yahoo.com instead of albert9330399@yahoo.com. By mid August, they can come over to Yahoo! and discover which one they got. The company did not part with much information about how users get their hankered ID. A Yahoo! ID is not just the email address, but it also gives the users access to content they opt for, like sports, weather, and news.

Yahoo! is clearing up the dead accounts, paving way for the newer ones. Users who fed their Yahoo! account to spammers and left it dormant have been given a chance to reset it and start afresh. Yahoo has given time till mid July for the sleeping accounts to wake up and be active.

The California-based firm seems to be dusting and cleaning every nook and corner of its site, to make it more appealing, through refurbishing the page, releasing new apps, making jaw-dropping acquisitions, setting off Flickr, and so on. We could expect a lot more from Yahoo! in the long run, as the blog ended with a thank-you note to the users, "We've got a lot more in store that will make your everyday routines even more inspiring. We're happy to have you as a part of the Yahoo! community!"
