Austria's inflation rate, as measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices, rose to 2.4 percent in May from 2.1 percent in April, Statistics Austria said Friday.
The rate of inflation based on the consumer price index increased to 2.3 percent from 2 percent in April. The main upward pressure came from rising food prices.
Prices of food and beverages climbed 4.7 percent from April 2012. Excluding food costs, the CPI rose 1.7 percent.
On a monthly basis, the HICP rose 0.1 percent and the CPI increased 0.2 percent.
