The European Union Foreign Policy chief Catherine Ashton has said that she remains "firmly committed to working with the new Iranian leadership towards a swift diplomatic solution of the nuclear issue."
In a statement in response to the election of a new Iranian President, Ashton said "The announced results confirm that they have decided to entrust Hassan Rohani with a strong mandate to govern Iran
in the next four years."
The EU High Representative wished Rohani well in forming a new government and in taking up his new responsibilities.
On Saturday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon congratulated Hasan Rowhani on his election as the next President of Iran, and commended the country's high turnout to the polls.
The UN chief's spokesperson said in a statement that Ban "intends to remain engaged with Iranian authorities and with the President-elect on issues relevant to the international community and the welfare of the Iranian people."
He will "continue encouraging Iran to play a constructive role in regional and international affairs," the statement added.
The Iranian people elected the Moderate Shiite cleric as their new president in elections on 14 June, in which over 72% eligible Iranian voters had cast their votes.
Rouhani secured 50.70% votes, just crossing the minimum requirement to avoid a run-off.
Rouhani hailed his election as a "victory for wisdom, moderation and maturity... over extremism."
He will become the new President succeeding Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after Iran's spiritual leader Ayatollah Khamenei ratify the election outcome on August 3.
