German Factory Employment Rises 0.7% In April

Employment in the German manufacturing sector increased modestly in April, preliminary data released by the Federal Statistical Office showed Monday.

The number of persons employed in manufacturing units with fifty or more employees increased 0.7 percent on annual basis to around 5.2 million in April.

With a 1.9 percent year-on-year increase, manufacturers of motor vehicles and parts recorded the biggest growth in April, followed by the mechanical engineering sector, which posted a 1.8 percent rise.

At the same time, the number of paid working hours climbed 9.7 percent annually to 704 million during the month, data showed.
