Turkish Unemployment Rate Rises

Unemployment rate in Turkey increased during the three months to April, the latest Labor Force Survey published by the Turkish Statistical Institute showed Monday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose to 9.4 percent in February-April from 9.2 percent in January-March. A year earlier, the rate was at 9.2 percent.

The unadjusted jobless rate was 10.1 percent in three months to April. This was 0.2 percentage points higher than the same period last year.

The number of unemployed rose to 2.8 million in February-April from 2.6 million a year earlier. Employment increased by more than one million workers to 24.97 million. Employment rate increased to 45.1 percent from 43.8 percent last year.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the youth unemployment rate stood at 18.7 percent, up from 18.5 percent in three months to March.
