Smiths Group plc (SMIN.L) has appointed Sir George Buckley as its Chairman, effective from the close of its Annual General Meeting on November 19, 2013. He replaces Donald Brydon whose planned retirement was announced last year. Sir George would join the Smiths Board on August 1, 2013 as a non-executive director and Deputy Chairman and a member of the Nomination and Remuneration committees, which would allow an orderly transition and thorough induction process.
Sir George retired last year as Chairman and CEO of 3M, the US-based global technology company and Dow 30 component. Earlier, he was Chairman and CEO of Brunswick Corp. and Chief Technology Officer at Emerson Electric Co.
