Software giant Microsoft slowly and quietly launched the much-awaited Microsoft Office for the iPhone. Although it is a free download, it will work only for users who have already subscribed to the Microsoft's Office 365 Home Premium and ProPlus services. The firm says it is not a standalone app, and for now, it is available only for the smaller screens and not for the larger iPad's.
The app, which is titled the Office Mobile for Office 365 subscriber, allows the user to read and edit text documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations. These documents can be taken from the cloud where it is stored, or from email as attachments. Along with this, the user can also edit files that have been recently used offline. The users can additionally create new word and excel documents on their device.
Office Mobile has been optimized for the phone in a way that it allows the important things to be done quickly. The accessibility of the content becomes very easier, as the user can find the documents they viewed on their computer in the recent documents panel. Furthermore, the user can review their documents on the phone with the Resume Reading feature that takes the user back to the point where they left it earlier.
To get this app, the user needs an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 6.1, and as of now the app is made available only to the US.
