The National Association of Home Builders' housing market data for June showed that the headline index rose to 52 in June from 44 in May. Economists expected the index to rise to 45.
The US dollar edged higher against its major rivals following the report. As of 10:03 am ET, the greenback was trading at 1.3340 against the euro, 94.83 against the yen, 1.5740 against the pound and 0.9236 against the Swiss franc.
