Aircraft orders worth billions of dollars were announced at the 50th Paris International Airshow in Le Bourget, France, on Monday, with major manufacturers Boeing Co. (BA) and Airbus SAS announcing some of the major orders.
Boeing and Qatar Airways announced agreements for nine Boeing 777-300ER airplanes at the show. The Doha-based airline currently operates 35 Boeing passenger and cargo 777s of various types, including 22 777-300ERs, nine 777-200LR airplanes and four 777 Freighters.
The latest agreements include a firm order for two airplanes previously attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing's website, as well as a commitment for an additional seven airplanes. The total value of the agreement is $2.8 billion at current list prices.
Further, Boeing said GE Capital Aviation Services or GECAS, the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric (GE) committed an order for 10 787-10X Dreamliners equipped with state-of-art GEnx engines, subject to the 787-10 program launch. The details of the agreement is yet to be finalized.
Airbus SAS, owned by European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. or EADS NV (EADSF.PK, EADSY.PK) said aircraft lessor ILFC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), signed a firm contract for the purchase of 50 additional A320neo Family aircraft. With this latest order, ILFC increases its total firm NEO order tally to 150.
ILFC will make its engine selection for the aircraft later. Including this latest contract, ILFC remains Airbus' largest customer as it has ordered a combined total of 769 single-aisle and widebody Airbus aircraft.
Meanwhile, Doric Lease Corp. signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the purchase of 20 A380s. Doric has a six billion US dollar aircraft portfolio under management, including 18 A380s acquired through sale-leaseback arrangements.
Germany's Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DLAKF, DLAKY) firmed up a previous decision and signed for 100 A320 Family aircraft, including 35 A320neo, 35 A321neo and 30 A320ceo with Sharklets at the international airshow.
Further, Air New Zealand took delivery of its first A320 equipped with fuel saving wing tip devices, or Sharklets, at a ceremony during the airshow.
Brazil's Embraer S.A. (ERJ) said it has signed Letters of Intent with five undisclosed airlines from Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America for 65 orders for the E-Jets E2.
The first delivery of an E-Jets E2 - the E190-E2 - is planned for the first semester of 2018. The E195-E2 is slated to enter service in 2019 and the E175-E2 in 2020.
Separately, the company signed LoI with International Lease Finance Corp. for the sale of 25 E190-E2 and 25 E195-E2. The LoI also contains options for an additional 25 E190-E2 and 25 E195-E2.
Embraer also signed a firm order with SkyWest Inc., which flies feeder flights for some other airlines, for 100 E175-E2 aircraft, and another 100 Purchase Rights, bringing the potential of the order to 200 aircraft. If all the orders are exercised, the contract has an estimated value, at list price, of $9.36 billion.
This new contract is in addition to SkyWest's previous order last month for up to 200 current generation E175 aircraft.
