Atlanta Radio Hosts Fired After Mocking ALS Patient Steve Gleason

The hosts of an Atlanta sports talk radio have been fired following a segment in which they mocked former New Orleans Saints player Steve Gleason, who has been diagnosed with the degenerative brain disease ALS, according to the Atlanta Constitution-Journal.

Thus far no transcript of the bit have been released but listeners in the area were quick to hit the web blasting the station, 790 The Zone, for the off-color segment. The Constitution-Journal has released one account from a listener who claimed that the station simulated a call-in from Gleason in which he spoke through a computer and seemed disoriented.

Nick Cellini, of the station's "Mayhem in the AM" show took to Twitter shortly after the incident to apologize for the bit, writing:

"My apologies to everyone. It was a stupid attempt at humor that backfired. Emphasis on stupid."
