A Florida man has been sentenced to 2.5 years in a federal prison after importing millions of dollars of counterfeit razor blades into the US. Jeffrey Steven Telsey, 56, acquired the razor blades from an importer in New Jersey, where they entered the country from China, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
Tesley passed the blades off as Gillette Mach 3 replacement blades, securing deals with many large retail stores nationwide. The blades were sold via Tesley's business JCA Industries, based in Boca Raton, and were first discovered at a Meijer store in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Sentinel reports.
Homeland security agents based in Detroit intercepted 27,000 of the counterfeit blades in a controlled buy. William Hayes, acting special agent in charge of Homeland Security in Detroit, issued a statement on the bust, saying:
"Counterfeit goods cost American brand holders billions of dollars on an annual basis. The unfortunate reality is that these losses are then passed on to the end users — you and me."
