Australia's employment vacancies published on the internet decreased modestly in May, data released by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) showed Wednesday.
The index of online vacancies, on an unadjusted basis, declined 0.5 percent in May in trend terms. Vacancies for all the eight occupational groups, except those for sales workers and managers, recorded declines. With a 1.6 percent fall, vacancies for professionals logged the biggest fall during the month.
All regions, except South Australia and New South Wales, recorded decreases in vacancies, data showed.
Compared to May 2012, the number of vacancies fell sharply by 22 percent, and has reached far below its peak seen in March 2008. Decreases were seen in all states and territories, and vacancies for all of the eight occupational groups fell.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the internet vacancy index edged down 0.2 percent in May. Year-on-year, the index fell by 22.8 percent.
