Five fishermen who were on a commercial expedition in Destin, Florida, near the Gulf of Mexico recently found a package that contained 55 pounds of cocaine floating in the water.
Fox News reports that he fishermen notified the proper authorities and that the incident is now being handled by the Okaloosa County Multi-Agency Drug Task Force.
"State and federal law enforcement officers responded to the scene," said an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reports the Digital Journal. "The fishermen provided statements and turned the bale over to authorities. The Drug Task Force collected and processed the bale and determined that it contained 25 kilograms [55 pounds] of cocaine."
Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley believes that the drugs came from Venezuela due to the language found in the bale of confiscated cocaine.
"This is definitely not a source city for that quantity of narcotics," Ashley said.
