The most recent search for Jimmy Hoffa has been called off by the FBI after a search of a field outside Detroit turned up empty-handed.
The USA Today reports that Robert Foley, who heads the FBI in Detroit, made the announcement on Wednesday shortly after a third day of digging in the field had resumed.
The dig site was thought to contain Hoffa's remains after former mobster Tony Zerilli claimed that he had had been told that Hoffa was murdered and buried beneath a barn in the field.
"It's probably one of the most relevant and credible in terms of being in the know with information that's come forth," said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard before the search was called off. "Whether or not it bears fruit remains to be seen."
Jimmy Hoffa was kidnapped on July 30, 1975 when he was 62 from the parking lot of a restaurant in Bloomfield Township, Michigan.
