Grad Cake Turned 'Cat Cake' Becomes Famous Online

A simple misunderstanding between a baker and an Indiana mother became a hilarious cake mistake that went quickly went viral.

It all started when Carol Gambrel wanted to do something to celebrate her daughter's graduation from Indiana University. Laura Gambrel, 22, didn't attend the graduation ceremony or even want a party, so her mom decided to keep the celebration simple.

The mother ordered a cake at a local bakery, requesting that they add a picture of her daughter's face with a scroll and the school's colors. She additionally told the baker she wanted a cap on the top of Laura's head.

When she went to pick up the cake, she got not a "face cake," but rather a "cat cake."

The mother told ABC News: "When I went to pick it up at the store, I could not stop laughing. I told them not to scrape it off. It was one of those young kids behind the counter and he seemed a little distracted with someone else ordering a cake a foot away from us. We went through the school colors and everything, and I said, 'Oh, could you draw a cap on her head?' And he gives me this look."

When Laura saw the cake, she immediately took a picture of the cake and uploaded it to Reddit.com, an entertainment website. The Indiana News Center reports the photo received almost 30,000 up votes within hours of it being posted.
