Danish Consumer Sentiment Turns Positive For First Time Since July 2012

Danish consumer confidence turned positive for the first time since July 2012, survey data published by Statistics Denmark showed Thursday. Moreover, retail sales improved for the first time in three months in May.

The consumer sentiment index came in at 3.4 in June, up from -2.6 in May.

Assessment of own economic situation over the last year improved to 2 in June, from -2.7 in the prior month. At the same time, family's financial position over the year ahead climbed to 10.1 from 9.6.

The index for economic situation compared to the previous year rose to -1.6 from -9.2 in the previous month. Expectations of economic situation reached 13.2 from 5.2. Time to buy durables came in at -6.9, compared to -15.9 in May.

In a separate communique, the statistical office said retail sales increased 0.3 percent month-on-month in May, following a 0.5 percent fall in April and 0.7 percent drop in March.

On a yearly basis, retail sales dropped 0.7 percent after easing 1.8 percent in the prior month.
