Robert Mueller, director for the FBI, admitted to Congress that the agency uses drones for domestic surveillance, but that he's not sure what information in particular the drones capture:
"It's very seldom used and generally used in a particular incident when you need the capability. It is very narrowly focused on particularized cases and particularized needs."
The FAA estimates that roughly 10,000 civilian drones will be in use in the U.S. within five years for law enforcement and commercial purposes. Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein, reports CNN, expressed concern over their increasing presence:
"I think the greatest threat to the privacy of Americans is the drone and the use of the drone, and the very few regulations that are on it today and the booming industry of commercial drones."
Mueller's Wednesday morning testimony will likely be his last as FBI director as his term expires in September. The Obama administration is expected to replace him with former Bush official James Comey, according to the Wall Street Journal.
