Indian Army has lodged a 'strong protest' with Pakistan on Wednesday after its troops came under fire from across the border for the second time in a week, said Indian army officials.
'There was an unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control on Tuesday evening,' AFP reported army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Anil Kumar Mathur as saying on Wednesday.
Mathur said that the India's head of military operations has conveyed the country's strong protest over the incident to his Pakistani counterpart. He added that the issue would be discussed when the military officers of both countries meet later in the day.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani military issued a statement rejecting the Indian allegation, saying; 'The Indian military authorities have been informed that no incident of firing from this side of the LoC took place, as claimed'.
India accuses Pakistan of using unprovoked firing over the border as a cover for infiltration attempts by Kashmiri militants. However, this is the first reported instance of cross border firing after both countries reached a cease-fire agreement in 2003.
