Mylan, Inc. (MYL), a diversified and generic specialty pharmaceutical company, announced on Thursday that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, granted tentative approval for Linezolid Tablets, 600 mg., a generic version of antibiotic Zyvox tablets.
Linezolid is used to treat infections of the skin, bone, blood, lung and respiratory tract, and other tissues.
Zyvox, owned by Pharmacia and Upjohn, Inc., had sales in the U.S. amounting to $422 million for the 12 months ending March 31, 2008, as per IMS Health.
The Canonsburg, Pennsylvania-based Mylan added that currently it has 93 Abbreviated New Drug Applications pending for FDA approval, of which 21 are potential first-to-file opportunities.
MYL closed Wednesday's regular trading at $12.15, up $0.10 on a volume of nearly 4.38 million shares.
