Mexican air carrier Grupo Aeroportuario Del Pacifico (PAC) Tuesday announced preliminary operating result for the month of June, reporting a 4.8% decline in total terminal passenger traffic.
International passenger traffic for the month declined 3.5% and domestic passenger traffic decreased 5.4%, despite higher passenger traffic at the airports of Guadalajara, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Hermosillo and Manzanillo.
Passenger traffic at the airports of Tijuana, Mexicali, La Paz, Guanajuato, Los Mochis, Morelia and Aguascalientes, However, declined from June 2007.
Though total international terminal passenger traffic declined, traffic at Puerto Vallarta, Hermosillo and Mexicali increased from last year. Meanwhile, airports at Los Cabos, Guadalajara, Aguascalientes, Manzanillo, La Paz, Morelia, Tijuana and Los Mochis experienced a drop in traffic compared to the same period laset year.
The company notified that the weekly schedule of flights operated by low cost carriers decreased by 48 weekly segments at the close of June 2008 from May 2008. The lower frequencies reflect the restructuring of routes and frequencies for increasing profitability as a result of the highly competitive environment and the increasing cost of jet fuel.
Looking ahead, the company said it is in the process of adjusting its original guidance for 2008 and plans to release its revised guidance in the second quarter announcement.
PAC finished Tuesday's trading at $29.87 on a volume of about 621 thousand shares on the NYSE.
