Friday, Shanks Group Plc (SKS.L), European waste management company, said it was awarded a 25 year, 700 million pounds Public-Private Partnership, or PPP, waste management contract from the Cumbria County Council, subject to satisfactory financial closure.
Under the contract, Shanks, which operates in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands, will develop and manage new waste and recycling facilities along with Cumbria's existing household waste recycling centres, or HWRCs.
For the purpose, Shanks will employ its proven Intelligent Transfer Station, or ITS, Mechanical Biological Treatment, or MBT, technology used in waste facilities across Europe and the UK.
Shanks added that it continues to anticipate financial closure and contract commencement in early 2009.
SKS.L is currently trading on the LSE at 101.75 pence, down 0.25 pence or 0.25%, on a volume of 392 thousand shares.
