Elbit To Supply C-MUSIC System To Israel's Ministry Of Transportation For $76 Mln

Elbit Systems Ltd. (ESLT), a maker of defense, electronic and electro-optic systems, Thursday said that it will supply commercial multi-spectral infrared countermeasure system, or C-MUSIC system, to the Israeli Ministry of Transportation under a contract worth about $76 million.

The system, to be supplied by Elbit's wholly owned subsidiary Elbit Systems Electro-optics El-Op Ltd. is to be installed aboard a variety of commercial aircraft owned by Israeli commercial airlines.

Elbit said that C-MUSIC is based on the MUSIC system, a direct infra-red countermeasure technology for military aircraft and helicopters. It disrupts missiles fired at aircraft and causes them to veer off course by transmitting a laser beam. The company's MUSIC system completed a series of flight tests recently.

Commenting on the contract, Joseph Ackerman, president and chief executive officer of Elbit Systems, said, "This is a significant breakthrough in this field, and we believe that many customers worldwide will decide to install these systems aboard their commercial aircraft fleets."

Elbit also said that leading aviation industries and air forces have expressed increasing interest in the system and its capabilities.

ESLT is trading at $61.78, up 1.71, on a volume of 4,975 shares.
