Rick Astley scored his second number one single with the track “Together Forever” on June 18, 1988. The song was released as part of Astley’s debut album “Whenever You Need Somebody” and was penned by the songwriting team of Mike Stock, Matt Aiken and Pete Waterman. While speaking with Billboard, Stock says they wrote the track specifically to follow up Astley’s breakout hit “Never Gonna Give You Up.”’“When we’d done all the other tracks we listened to them and thought . . . people have already bought ‘Never Gonna Give You Up,’ what else is on there that can really compare?” he recalls. “Together Forever” grabbed the top spot from "One More Try" by George Michael and held on for a week before it was succeeded by Debbie Gibson’s "Foolish Beat."
