The Beastie Boys hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart with their fifth studio release “To The Five Boroughs” on June 27, 2004. The album followed their 1998 offering “Hello Nasty” and includes the singles “Ch-Check It Out” and “Right Right Now Now.”

When the album hit number one, it claimed the top spot from “Contraband” by Velvet Revolver. The trio held on at number one through July 3, 2004 when “Kiss of Death” by Jadakiss grabbed the top spot.

While the album includes the Beasties’ signature playfulness, Adam Yauch explained there was also a political bent:

“Part [of this album] is what we’re feeling and part of it is hoping it will affect the political process. I think [President George W.] Bush is terrifying. This guy is a lunatic. We’d be hard pressed to find somebody worse to put in there. Maybe Adolph Hitler,” he told Spin in 2004.
