Country star Jim Reeves died on July 31, 1964. He was 40 years old.The singer, who reached stardom in the 1950s, was known for such songs as "Mexican Joe" and "He'll Have To Go." He was also a substantial star outside the U.S., with a large following in South Africa and Norway.On July 31, Reeves was behind the controls of a small plane, transporting himself and a couple associates to Texas when they hit a thunderstorm and went down in Tennessee. Reeves and his companions were killed, though it took days of searching before their remains were found.
