1978 - 'Who Are You' Album Released

The Who released their third studio album, “Who Are You,” on August 18, 1978. The album followed the Who’s 1975 release “The Who by Numbers” and includes their iconic title track “Who Are You.”

“Who Are You” climbed as high as number two on the Billboard 200 chart but was held out of the top spot by some of the 1970s biggest releases. That summer, the Bee Gees dominated the number one spot with the soundtrack to “Saturday Night Fever” and the “Grease” soundtrack also hit number one for an extended stretch.

On the album’s release day, Pete Townshend gave an interview with Nicky Horne for the show “Your Mother Wouldn’t Like It” on Capitol Radio. The pair discussed the new album as well as Pete’s new book about “Tommy” and the movies “Quadrophenia” and “The Kids are Alright.”
