1994 - Usher Releases Debut Album

Usher released his self-titled debut album on August 29, 1994. The album was executive produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs and L.A. Reid and includes guest production from Al B. Sure!, Ward Corbett, DeVante Swing, Edward "Eddie F" Ferrell and others.

The album included Usher’s first three singles — “Can U Get Wit It,” “Think of You,” and “The Many Ways.” The album peaked at number 167 on the Billboard 200 chart while cracking the top five on the Heatseekers chart and hitting number 24 on the R&B chart.

Usher was merely a teen when he began recording the album for LaFace Records, and says they had to shift gears when puberty kicked in:

“I went through a real bad voice change. And they changed the direction of the album,” he told Vibe in 1994.
