Jackson Browne’s “Hold Out” reached number one on September 13, 1980. The LP, a long-overdue follow-up to 1977’s smash hit “Running on Empty,” featured the hits “Boulevard” and “That Girl Could Sing.” “Hold Out” is also known for containing the fewest songs of any of Browne’s albums, as well as containing his longest track, “Hold On Hold Out.” To date, the album remains Browne’s only album to hit number one on the Billboard charts, a distinction it earned despite initial poor reviews from critics.
