2001 – ‘Aaliyah’ From Aaliyah Hits #1

Aaliyah hit the top of the Billboard 200 chart with her self-titled third album on September 15, 2001. The album followed her 1995 release “One in a Million” and featured the singles “We Need A Resolution,” “Rock the Boat,” “More Than a Woman,” “I Care 4 U” and “I Refuse.”

When the album hit number one, it claimed the top spot from “Now” by Maxwell. The posthumous number one hit stayed on top of the chart through September 21, 2001 when “Toxicity” by System of a Down hit number one.

“More Than A Woman” became Aaliyah’s first and only number one hit in the U.K. and was co-written by Timbaland. The track featured a sample of the track "Alouli Ansa,” which was recorded by Syrian singer Mayada El-Hennawy.
