1992 - MCA Releases George Strait's ‘Pure Country’
1992 - MCA Releases George Strait's ‘Pure Country’

MCA Records released George Strait’s soundtrack to the film “Pure Country” on September 15, 1992. The album followed Strait’s own 1992 release “Holding My Own” and featured the singles “Heartland,” “I Cross My Heart” and “When Did You Stop Loving Me.”

By July of 1993, the album had hit the top of the Billboard Country Albums chart, bumping “Tell Me Why” by Wynonna from the top spot. The record stayed on top through July 9, 1993 when “It Won't Be the Last” by Billy Ray Cyrus hit number one.

“Heartland” was also a major success, topping the Country Songs chart. It was the theme song to the film, in which Strait played the leading role. Strait’s real-life son appeared singing the song in the opening sequence of the film.
