Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons hit number one for the first time with their hit “Sherry” on September 15, 1962.

The hit led to a flood of chart-toppers from the group, whose singles “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like A Man” would soon hit number one. The Four Seasons' record sales in the U.S. from 1962 to 1964 were matched only by the Beach Boys.

The group also weathered the British Invasion later in the decade, earning the distinction of being the only group to have a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the years before, during and after the Beatles’ succession of number one hits.
