Gotye released his second studio release “Like Drawing Blood” on May 21, 2006. The released followed his 2003 effort “Boardface” and featured the singles “Heart a Mess” and "Learnalilgivinanlovin.”The release didn’t chart in the U.S., but hit number 12 in Canada and also peaked about number 45 in Belgium. The album did not yet break Gotye through to international acclaim, but did gain some critical blog buzz, including kind words from Pitchfork’s Joe Tangari, who wrote:“Like Drawing Blood, De Backer's second Gotye LP, is full of dark pop, produced with an open clarity that separates the numerous sounds and consequently comes off as huge and sweeping. There's a definite ring of the 80s to it as well, with its deliberate drum programming, big synth pads and romantic melodicism.”
